Welcome!

In my capacity as director of the London Law Programme, I warmly welcome your interest in the Programme and I believe strongly that a semester or indeed a year in London will enhance your learning experience in ways that will expand your ambitions and horizons. There is enough academic depth and cultural enrichment in the Programme to contribute to your formation as a different kind of lawyer.

The Notre Dame London Law Programme is unique among ABA Accredited Study Abroad programs in the deliberate manner in which it is designed to complement the scholarship in South Bend while drawing on the vast rewards of the diverse legal community in the U.K. and Europe. Its balanced curriculum covers courses in fields such as corporate and business law, international and comparative law, English and European Union Law as well as lawyering skills. Classes are generally taught by a mixture of experienced academic scholars and leading practitioners who are encouraged to expose students to the realities of the law with invited guest speakers and observation tours of national and international institutions.

The academic curriculum includes an externship that is sufficiently diverse to take account of most career interests. Recent externships have been with international law firms, the United States Department of Justice, community law centers, human rights advocacy groups, KPMG and barristers chambers.

The Programme has some housing space in the University residence, Conway Hall, that is conveniently located a short and pleasant walk across the River Thames from Fischer Hall where all lessons take place. Space is allocated on a first come first served basis.

In London, we are privileged to have a vibrant community of Notre Dame alumni, including Law School alumni practicing in England, who are always happy to act as mentors for students in the Programme. Many of them took the London Law Programme when they were at the Law School and confess to how it has transformed their lives. There is something for everyone in London and not every American law student has this opportunity, and so I urge you to take advantage of what the London Law Programme offers and you will not look back. We look forward to welcoming you to the cradle of the common law.
