Last year’s inaugural NDLS Homecoming Weekend was such a huge success that the Law School will again host a weekend here on campus to welcome alumni back to NDLS. Our goal is to give alumni the opportunity to reconnect with classmates and faculty and experience what is new at NDLS! Join us as the Fighting Irish host Vanderbilt at Notre Dame Stadium. The highlight of the weekend will feature a tented tailgate on the DeBartolo Quad prior to the game that will include an open bar with craft beers and wine and a delicious buffet. This year we have added the opportunity to attend academic events on both Friday and Saturday: a panel discussion with Notre Dame Lawyers who are recently appointed U.S. attorneys and a one-hour Ethics CLE by ND Lawyer, John Moore. Becoming a Different Kind of Lawyer: Our Broken Compass and the Aspirational Lawyer
The  legal  profession  faces  a  ‘tri-‐partite’  crisis:  increasing  levels  of  incivility,  lack  of   public  trust  and  rapidly  eroding  physical  and  mental  health  of  its  members.  Why?  In  many  ways,  it  is  because  so  many  lawyers  today  follow  a  broken  compass:  one   concerned   with   “winning”   and   divorced   from   obligations   to   clients   and   the   legal   system.   In   this   often   light-‐hearted,   one-‐hour   presentation,   we   will   review   the   root   of   the   profession’s   current   challenges.   We   will   explore   how   a   dedication   to   “winning”   corrupts   our   ability   to   serve   appropriately.   And,   we   will   focus   on   how   we   can   become  a  “Different  Kind  of  Lawyer”:  an  aspirational  vision  of  the  practice  of  law   that  confirms  the  best  in  us  and  in  the  profession.
