Hague Honor Scholars Program

The Hague Honor Scholars Program provides a select rising 2L or 3L wide-ranging, first-hand experience with international courts and bodies, the applications and cases before them, and legal work across the full breadth of the international law field.

The program will be supervised by Rodney Dixon KC through his law office based in London and The Hague.

The selected student will assist Mr. Dixon in cases before several international courts in The Hague, including the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (MICT), which performs the remaining functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), and the Kosovo Specialist Chambers. These cases will span the entire spectrum of litigant involvement, including State representation, claimants and defendants, defense work, class actions, victim representation, and amicus briefs.

The selected student will also have the opportunity to participate in cases before other international courts and bodies, including the European Court of Human Rights, the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, the United Nations (UN) Special Procedures, and other UN proceedings.

The internship will last roughly eight weeks. It will begin the week of Monday, May 20 and conclude on Friday, July 12, leaving time to return to the United States for summer interviews with law firms, including all ND Law School interview programs.

Location and Accommodations

The internship will be split between London and the Hague. The first three weeks will be spent in London, and the remaining five weeks will be spent in The Hague. While in London, housing will be available at Notre Dame’s Conway Hall at a rate of $482 per week. The student will need to book accommodations in The Hague independently but will have guidance and advice from the office of Mr. Dixon.

Compensation

  • The selected student will receive a $10,000 stipend.

  • Travel will be reimbursed up to $1,000.

How to Apply

All current 1Ls and 2Ls at Notre Dame Law School are eligible to apply for The Hague Honor Scholars Program. The following materials must be submitted through this posting by January 28:

  • Resume

  • Statement of interest (1-2 pages) explaining why you want to intern with Mr. Dixon and how doing so would advance your professional goals

  • Transcript of fall semester grades
