Heather McShain '96, '99 J.D. sworn in as magistrate judge

On May 1, Heather McShain '96, '99 J.D. was sworn in as a U.S. magistrate judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

“Our court is so delighted to welcome Judge McShain. She is an outstanding litigator and dedicated public servant. Judge McShain will be a wonderful addition to our court’s talented and hard-working magistrate bench,” Chief Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer said.

From 2010 until joining the bench, McShain was an assistant U.S. attorney assigned to the criminal division in the Northern District of Illinois. From 2002 to 2010, she served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, where she was assigned to the civil division. Early in her career, she worked as an associate in the Washington, D.C., office of Jones Day.

McShain is also an adjunct professor at Notre Dame Law School.
