A journal published by St. Mary's School of Law recently paid tribute to the late Notre Dame Law Professor Thomas L. Shaffer.

Issue 10:1 of the St. Mary’s Journal on Legal Malpractice & Ethics includes a quartet of tributes to Shaffer, a 1961 graduate of Notre Dame Law School who later served for decades as a member of the Law School's faculty. He was Notre Dame Law School's dean from 1971 to 1975.

Two of the articles were written by Notre Dame Law School alumni — Noel Augustyn '74 J.D. and Vincent R. Johnson '78 J.D. Johnson is the interim dean and Charles E. Cantu Distinguished Professor of Law at St. Mary's School of Law, and has taught as a visiting professor at Notre Dame Law School.

"As a law professor and scholar, Thomas L. Shaffer (April 4, 1934 to February 26, 2019) was one of the giants in the field of legal ethics as it emerged in the last quarter of the twentieth century," Johnson wrote in the opening sentence of his article.
