Avishalom Tor awarded fellowship from the Israel Institute of Advanced Studies

Avishalom Tor, professor and director of the Research Program on Law and Market Behavior at Notre Dame Law School, has been selected as one of two winners of an individual fellowship at the Israel Institute of Advanced Studies of Jerusalem for the 2021-22 academic year. 

IIAS selects scholars from around the world for their fellowship program. IIAS fellows are experienced researchers, and the fellowship provides the opportunity to further their research projects in an international setting.

“This is a terrific opportunity for advancing my work in an increasingly important area of law and public policy,” said Tor.  “I am also delighted to continue contributing to the increasing global footprint of ND Law and greatly appreciate Dean Cole’s strong support of the law school’s research mission.” 

Tor will spend the fellowship year building on his extensive background in behavioral law and economics with his project, “Disciplining the Behavioral Revolution.” The project addresses the law’s pressing need to examine its growing reliance on behaviorally-informed policy interventions, also known as “nudges.” It will assess different approaches for accomplishing this goal and, ultimately, increasing the likelihood that behavioral policies will be used only when and as appropriate and succeed in generating their intended benefits.

Tor joined the Law School faculty in 2011. He teaches in the areas of antitrust, corporate law and corporate governance, law and economics, and behavioral law and economics. 

He has also been a visiting professor at Bucerius Law School, University of Lucerne, University of St. Gallen, and Catholic University of Louvain. In 2019 he was the first legal scholar to be selected as a distinguished fellow of the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Study.
