Dennis Wieboldt is Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Robert E. Rodes, Jr. Fellow in Law and Religion at the University of Notre Dame, where he is also completing his Ph.D. in history. The author of more than 30 academic articles, book reviews, and other essays, Dennis writes in the areas of constitutional law and legal history, with a particular focus on the First Amendment’s Religion Clauses.

Dennis arrived at Notre Dame in 2023 as the first student to concurrently pursue a J.D./Ph.D. in history. Before then, he earned his B.A. summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Boston College. There, he received several undergraduate honors, including the 2022 McCarthy Prize in the Humanities—a distinction conferred upon the best thesis in the humanities by Boston College’s Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. After earning his B.A., Dennis earned an M.A. in history from Boston College.

In 2026, Dennis earned his J.D. magna cum laude from Notre Dame Law School, where he received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Program of Law, Ethics & Public Policy. Among other honors, Dennis was also recognized with the A. Harold Weber Writing Award and the Patricia O’Hara Scholarship and Leadership Award.

Outside of the classroom, Dennis serves as the Leep Family Rector of Graham Family Hall, a 260-student residential community at the University of Notre Dame. He is a Non-Resident Research Fellow of the Georgetown Center for the Constitution.
