Esther Uwicyeza is originally from Rwanda and obtained her Bachelor of Law degree from the Université Libre de Kigali with a Second Class Upper Division. She is a member of the Rwandan Bar Association (RBA) and the East African Law Society. She has been an active lawyer with a particular interest in human rights, which led her to work with genocide survivors, defend victims of gender-based violence, and represent marginalized people.

Before joining Notre Dame Law School, she worked as an investigator and director at Levy Firestone Muse LLP, where she was instrumental in addressing issues related to international crimes. She has also been a fellow of the Certa Foundation, where she contributed to initiatives aimed at promoting equality and social transformation. In August, she is eager to relocate to Indiana and join the 2025 International Human Rights Law (LLM) cohort at the University of Notre Dame.
