Veronica Root Joins NDLS Faculty

Veronica Root will join NDLS as an associate professor of law, Dean Nell Jessup Newton announced today.

Professor Root came to NDLS in 2012 with a two-year appointment as a visiting assistant professor from the Washington, D.C., office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, where she practiced in the firm’s Litigation Department. She will assume her new tenure-track position at NDLS on July 1.

“Everyone who has had the pleasure of working with Professor Root over the past two years is delighted by this appointment,” Dean Newton said. “It is very good news for the faculty and even better news for our students.”

Professor Root teaches Professional Responsibility and will begin teaching Contracts in the fall. She writes at the intersections of professional responsibility, corporate governance, employment law, and corporate social responsibility. Her recent articles have been published by the Virginia Law Review and the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform. “My research is motivated by the challenges faced by organizations as they attempt to navigate the legal and ethical rules that govern their relationships with each other, their employees, and other internal as well as external stakeholders,” Professor Root said. “I am interested in understanding the institutional mechanisms that firms can use to improve legal and regulatory compliance and strengthen antidiscrimination norms.”

Professor Root received her undergraduate degree cum laude from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business with a B.S. in Business Administration. She received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where she served as Managing Editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law. Following graduation, she clerked for Judge Carl E. Stewart of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
