Professor Jay Tidmarsh to deliver Notre Dame Law School 2024 Commencement Address

The Notre Dame Law School Class of 2024 has selected Jay Tidmarsh, the Judge James J. Clynes, Jr. Professor of Law, as the recipient of the 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award. Professor Tidmarsh will deliver the commencement address to the class during the Law School’s Diploma and Hooding Ceremony on Saturday, May 18.

Each graduating class chooses the Law School Distinguished Teaching Award, honoring one faculty member who demonstrates excellence in leadership, friendship, legal knowledge, legal teaching, and professional ability. The recipient of the award addresses the class at commencement.

Professor Tidmarsh, who teaches primarily in civil procedure, complex civil litigation, torts, evidence, and conflicts of laws, has been a member of the Notre Dame Law School faculty since 1989. This marks his fifth time receiving the Distinguished Teaching Award, having previously been honored in 2019, 2012, 2005, and 1995.

He earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.
