Notre Dame Law School is pleased to announce the establishment of the Hon. Joseph C. and Margaret Cassini III Endowment for Excellence.

This endowment will support the Notre Dame Law School’s Loan Repayment Assistance Program, which is designed to ensure that NDLS graduates with law school loans may accept public interest and public service positions even when they pay modest salaries. Under the LRAP program, NDLS loans its graduates funds to help repay qualifying law school educational loans. The LRAP loans are then forgiven over a three-year period, provided that the graduates remain in public interest or public service employment.

“We are extremely grateful for Judge Cassini’s generosity and his commitment to our students’ futures,” said Dean Nell Jessup Newton.

“Being able to make this gift is a fulfillment of my love to the University. I’m thankful I can help future law students in their public service careers,” said Judge Cassini. “This gift brings me great satisfaction.”

“Notre Dame law students are top notch, well grounded, and eager to learn,” continued Judge Cassini. “It is because of these values that I continue to hire NDLS graduates as clerks. Public service offers them a great opportunity and more career options.”

Judge Cassini currently serves in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Criminal Division. He is three-time graduate of the University of Notre Dame, receiving a Baccalaureate in Arts in 1972. He later received both his Master of Business Administration and Juris Doctorate from the University in 1976. He lives with his wife, Margie, in West Orange, New Jersey, and presently serves on the University of Notre Dame’s Law Advisory Council.
