Notre Dame International Law Society Symposium on the Rights of Non-citizens

This year’s International Law Society symposium focuses on the rights of non-citizens and will take place Friday, February 18, from 9:30a.m. – 3:45 p.m. in Biolchini Hall, Room 1310. There will be two panels (9:30-11:45 and 1:00-3:00), that will include six 30-minute sessions on current issues facing non-citizens. A brief reception will follow.

Among the panelists are experts from the Indiana, Notre Dame, Pennsylvania, and Villanova law schools, and Jorge Bustamante, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants.

Notre Dame’s International Law Society (ILS) was organized in 1971 and is an affiliate of the American Society of International Law Societies. ILS is a student organization that strives to create and maintain awareness of issues in international law at Notre Dame. ILS sponsors many events to foster interest in the field including an annual symposium at the Law School on current issues in international law.

Friday’s program is being co-sponsored by the International Law Students Association and the University of Notre Dame Law School Center for Human Rights. Christine Cervenak, Notre Dame Law School’s Advisor on International Programs, and Sean O’Brien, Assistant Director of the law school’s Center for Civil and Human Rights will moderate the panels.

The event is free and open to the public.
