The Notre Dame Lawyers Club of San Diego hosted a sports and business panel discussion at PETCO Park earlier this month that proved to be a great success.

“It was fitting that the sports and business panel was at Petco Park because the event was a homerun,” said Juan Castañeda, founder of Castañeda Trial Attorneys. Castañeda serves on the leadership team of the Notre Dame Lawyers Club of San Diego.

“With over 80 Notre Dame alumni in attendance, a tour of the beautiful Petco Park, and a thought-provoking discussion on the role of sports and business in education and life, the event lived up to its billing,” he said. “In the end, it was a great opportunity for the Notre Dame community to gather, share stories and reconnect."

The discussion was moderated by Tracy A. Warren, ’99 J.D., former national and local sports television broadcaster and current shareholder at Ogletree Deakins, and featured four Notre Dame alumni who offered their insights into building a successful career within the billion-dollar sports industry.

The panel included Sara Hayes, ’95 B.A., owner of Power Line Consulting; Tom Seidler, ’90 B.A., member of the San Diego Padres owners group; former Notre Dame quarterback, Dayne Crist, ’12 B.S.; and Steve Sepeta, ’99 B.B.A., former Notre Dame lacrosse player and creator and president of Adrenaline Lacrosse.

“It was great to catch up with old friends and reconnect with some of the younger alumni,” said Tom Curtin, ’68 J.D., former president of the Notre Dame Law Association Board and partner at Graham Curtin. Curtin, who traveled from New Jersey to attend the event added, “The event was a great opportunity to celebrate Notre Dame Law School in temperatures warmer than South Bend.”

Also enjoying the event was Charlie Weiss, ’68 J.D., former president of the Notre Dame Law Association Board and partner at Bryan Cave LLP. He said, “When I talk with students considering attending Notre Dame, I always point out that Notre Dame is a large family spread across this country and the world. No matter where you are you will find Notre Dame alumni there. The San Diego Notre Dame Lawyers event at Petco Park is a perfect illustration of this experience.”

Sponsors included the San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Law School/Order of St. Thomas More, Aptus Court Reporting, Advanced Discovery and the Notre Dame Club of San Diego.
