ND Lawyers of New York City: ‘Off the Court’ with Muffet McGraw and Coquese Washington ’97 J.D.

Notre Dame Law School will host a special event on June 6 in New York City.

Law School Dean G. Marcus Cole will participate in a fireside chat with Muffet McGraw, the former head women’s basketball coach at Notre Dame, and Coquese Washington ’92, ’97 J.D., the head women’s basketball coach at Rutgers.

Event agenda:

Muffet McGraw

Muffet McGraw was the Karen and Kevin Keyes Family Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Notre Dame from 1987-2020. She led the Fighting Irish to nine Final Fours and two national championships. She was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.

Coquese Washington is the head women’s basketball coach at Rutgers, taking over the Scarlet Knights’ program in 2022 after two seasons as associate head coach at Notre Dame. She previously served as head coach for 12 years at Penn State, where she was a three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year honoree.

Coquese Washington ’92, ’97 J.D.

Washington is a 1992 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a 1997 graduate of Notre Dame Law School. She played basketball for the Fighting Irish under McGraw’s guidance and went on to play six seasons in the WNBA. She was a key figure in the formation of the WNBA Players Association (WNBPA) and served as the founding president of the WNBPA, a role in which she led negotiations for the WNBA’s first collective bargaining agreement.
