Notre Dame Law Hispanic Law Students Association presents the annual Graciela Olivárez Award to Jodie Roure, J.D., Ph.D. Roure is the CEO of Hurricane Maria Assistance & Relief Institutional Alliance and an associate professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice-CUNY, where she is the founding director and project investigator of the Rising Scholars of Justice Program.

This year's recipient, Roure, specializes in human rights, violence against women, incarceration, poverty, and racial and social justice. For more than two decades, she has worked to help hundreds of low-income and underrepresented students enroll in law school and graduate school.

The award is named in honor of Olivárez, who was the first woman and first Latina to graduate from Notre Dame Law School. The Law School's chapter of the Hispanic Law Students Association presents this award each year to an outstanding Hispanic lawyer or judge who exemplifies Olivárez’s ideals such as a strong commitment to community service, high ethical and moral standards, and a dedication to justice.
