Small Business Pro Bono Project - Info Meeting

-

Location: Room 1130

Dear 2Ls and 3Ls, I am pleased to invite you to participate in the Small Business Pro Bono Project again this spring. The project is a partnership between the Law School, the St. Joseph County Bar Association, and the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Mendoza College of Business. The project offers law students an opportunity to team with pro bono attorneys in offering free legal assistance to local small businesses. Last year, eighteen 2Ls and 3Ls provided legal advice to six separate businesses.

The Gigot Center has identified six small businesses in need of assistance during the spring semester. A team of business students will evaluate each business and provide assistance with business plans, marketing, and operational issues. Teams of law students, working under the supervision of pro bono business attorneys, will simultaneously conduct a legal analysis of each business. The legal teams will meet with business owners, conduct factual and legal research, draft advice letters, and then conduct follow-up meetings with their clients. Some legal teams may take on a small project arising from their recommendations.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions in advance of the meeting.
