Margaret Martin has joined the Law School faculty as a professor of law after serving as a visiting associate professor of law at Notre Dame Law School during the 2025-2026 academic year. She previously was an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Western Ontario. She researches and teaches in legal philosophy, international criminal law, criminal theory, and the history of political thought. She holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Law, and a Master of Studies of Law from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law. She also holds an MA in Philosophy, and a BA honours (summa cum laude) in Philosophy and English Literature, both from McMaster University.

In 2014, Martin published her monograph, Judging Positivism (Hart Publishing, Oxford). In 2023, she co-edited New Essays on the Fish-Dworkin Debate (Hart Publishing, Oxford) bringing together an extensive collection of writing by internationally prominent legal theorists. She is on the board of the Canadian Journal of Law and Jurisprudence, Jurisprudence, and the American Journal of Jurisprudence.

Martin has been a fellow at the University of Toronto, and Corpus Christie College, University of Cambridge. In 2024, she held a Visiting Professorship at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil.
