Kathleen Moriarty

It is with great sadness that the Law School announces the passing of Kathleen Moriarty on December 20, 2022 in New York. Moriarty was considered the “ETF Pioneer” who helped create the inaugural U.S. exchange-traded fund 30 years ago. Moriarty was a senior counsel in the firm of Chapman and Cutler in its New York office. Moriarty helped create SPDR S&P 500 Trust (SPY), a mutual-fund style investment that traded on exchanges like stock which launched in 1993 for State Street Corp. and is now the world’s biggest EFT.
