Notre Dame Law School announces Class of 2023 awards

Notre Dame Law School is pleased to announce awards for the recent graduates of the Class of 2023.

Highest Academic Honors

The Law School proudly recognizes three students in the 2023 graduating class with the following honors — the highest academic honors that the Law School bestows.

William C. Eisenhauer
Colonel William J. Hoynes Award

The Hoynes Award — the Law School’s highest honor — is named after Notre Dame Law School’s first dean and is given to a member of the graduating class for outstanding scholarship, application, deportment, and achievement.

Eisenhauer will clerk for Judge Amul Thapar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and Judge Ben Beaton of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.

Olivia Rogers
Dean Joseph O’Meara Award

The award, established by the Class of 1964, is presented annually to a member of the graduating class for outstanding academic achievement.

Rogers will clerk for Judge Kevin Newsom on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, then for Judge David Stras of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Shane Coughlin
Farabaugh Prize

This award for high scholarship in law was established by Gallitzin A. Farabaugh, a local South Bend attorney.

Coughlin will clerk for Judge Lance E. Walker of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine, and then for Judge Thomas Hardiman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
