Notre Dame Law School Journal of Legislation 2024 Symposium

Location: McCartan Courtroom

Established in 1971, the Journal of Legislation hosts a symposium each year to bring scholars and leaders to discuss forefront legislative and policy issues. For 2024, the Journal of Legislation is proud to present its Volume 50 Symposium, Envisioning Federal AI Legislation. The Symposium is a two-day event taking place in the McCartan Courtroom on Thursday, April 25th and Friday, April 26th, and features a keynote fireside chat with U.S. Senator Todd Young.

The Symposium addresses the lack of federal legislation on artificial intelligence and engages a range of experts on what such legislation should look like. In addition to Senator Young, the Symposium's distinguished panel speakers include law professors, industry professionals, and policy experts. The aim of this discourse is to identify key challenges and considerations for developing future AI legislation for the United States.

The risks and opportunities of artificial intelligence have never been greater, and the need to discuss a future statutory framework has become more pressing than ever. AI affects businesses, civil society, and even national and global security. With this Symposium, Notre Dame Law School will be one of the first law schools to host a conference with a federal lawmaker on the issue of AI.

The Symposium will consist of a fireside chat and three topic-specific panels. The complete schedule of events is provided below. Please note that the fireside chat with Senator Young is a ticketed event and seat reservations are required using the form HERE
