The University of Notre Dame is immediately adjacent to the city of South Bend, Indiana. Locally, the area is known as “Michiana” and includes cities and towns located in northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.

A City of Arts
Throughout our community, the arts play an important role in bringing life and culture to all who partake.

  • South Bend Museum of Art. Works on view include historical Indiana artists and contemporary works in all media by artists from South Bend and beyond.
  • Morris Performing Arts Center. A nationally top ranked, 2,500-seat theater hosts a variety of performances including symphony, dance, national touring musical concerts, comedians, and Broadway touring performances.
  • South Bend Civic Theatre. South Bend Civic Theater is the oldest, continuously operating community theatre company in the South Bend-Mishawaka area.
  • South Bend Symphony Orchestra. A world-class symphony orchestra of this magnitude and star power is unusual and special in a city this size.

A short throw from the Notre Dame campus is Downtown South Bend. Shop and dine at unique local businesses and restaurants and check out the music venues. See all that our Downtown has to offer.

Just east of campus, you’ll find a great commercial dining and shopping district featuring indoor and multiple outdoor malls featuring stores such as Apple and Banana Republic. Local and national restaurants are aplenty and great for date nights and parent visits.
