The mission of the LLF is to educate on legal issues impacting LGBTQ+ people and to provide professional development opportunities for law students. The LLF offers scholarly programming that teaches and empowers students to be a different kind of lawyer. We sponsor a speaker series where experts discuss timely and complex legal issues affecting LGBTQ+ communities. We also foster LGBTQ+ inclusion. Building an inclusive environment at the Law School is more important than ever as queer-identifying student enrollment has doubled in recent years. We achieve this by hosting networking and social events, including movie watches, study groups, and alumni receptions.

The purpose of the LGBT Law Forum shall be to provide a forum in the Law School community for the scholarly discussion of legal issues related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) persons and to provide professional development opportunities for students exploring careers related to those issues. LGBT issues are prevalent in civil rights and discrimination cases, employment law, military and veterans issues, immigration policies, public school representation and administration, foster care and juvenile justice, public accommodations and housing, and criminal defense. The Law Forum’s activities will serve all law students by helping them compete with their peers and preparing them to address these issues in their future careers.

The LGBT Law Forum’s purpose is directly in line with the Notre Dame Law School’s mission, and assists students in “becom[ing] key participants in the most important academic conversations in our fields.”

The Forum will achieve its purpose by hosting academically- and professionally-focused events that promote knowledge and awareness of LGBT legal topics. The Forum will strive to provide a forum where a variety viewpoints are discussed and respected. The Forum will also serve as a liaison between the professional law community in this area and the student body through alumni mentoring programs and networking events that expose students to practitioners in this area of law.

At all times the Forum will conduct itself with the utmost respect for the Catholic values and tradition that form an integral part of the University.
