You always hear about the generosity and kindness of Notre Dame alumni, but you never really know it for yourself until it changes your life. As a first-year law student, the beginning is both overwhelming and exciting. The very first day of law school is the day you realize that all your dreams are finally attainable. My dream was to be a sports-law attorney and thanks to the support and help of Notre Dame alumni, last summer my dream came true.

During the summer of my 1L year I interned in the athletics department at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, under the supervision of a Double Domer. Through the program, I was able to see how collegiate athletics really work behind the scenes by attending presentations from different department heads, meeting with the athletic director, and best of all, participating in work that would actually go towards making Carolina athletics better. My time in Chapel Hill, all arranged and generously provided to me by Notre Dame alumni, helped solidify that I want to spend the rest of my life working in sports law, and for that I’ll always be proud to be Irish.

NDLS has a vast network of loyal alumni with graduates working in all 50 states and in over 80 international communities. There are a variety of mentorship programs, such as the 1L summer mock interview program, and annual activities held across the country as well as on campus.

Originally from Leawood, Kan., Claudia Tran earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2014. Tran serves as the alumni relations chair for the Student Bar Association, the director of public relations for the Sports, Communication, and Entertainment Law Forum and as a videographer for the Galilee law immersion program. During her 1L summer, Tran held three internships – an athletics department intern for the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, a legal intern for Sporting Kansas City, and an intern at the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office. For her 2L summer, Tran will work as a summer associate at Martin Pringle in Kansas City.
