NDLS Announces Program of Study in Environmental Law

Notre Dame Law School has approved a new Program of Study in Environmental Law, Dean Nell Jessup Newton announced July 11.

The program, designed for students who want to be prepared to address a wide array of environmental issues in legal practice, brings the total number of NDLS Programs of Study to seven.

Professor Bruce Huber notes that environmental law is no longer just a niche field. “The sweep and scope of environmental law continue to grow,” Professor Huber says. “Environmental rules touch nearly every area of the economy. Tomorrow’s lawyers will benefit from familiarity with these rules, their application, and the principles behind them.”

The program’s faculty members include nationally known scholars who bring their specialized expertise and substantial practice experience to the classroom and to their role as student advisors. “My colleagues and I are always available for consultation regarding course work,” Professor Huber notes, “and we are fortunate to be at a premier research university that offers a host of incredible opportunities related to environmental law and policy, both inside and beyond the law school.”

According to Dean Newton, the Law School’s Programs of Study are an increasingly popular option for students who wish to explore particular subjects in greater depth without locking themselves into a rigid list of additional required courses. “Our students appreciate the personalized guidance and advice of Notre Dame faculty,” she says, “and our Programs of Study are one of the more innovative ways in which our faculty are providing that kind of help to every student who wants it.”
