Professor Jimmy Gurulé has been asked to make two presentations at a major symposium being hosted by the Indiana Attorney General’s office for training Mexican prosecutors in the modernization and reform of Mexico’s criminal justice system.
On Sunday September 26 Gurulé will be speaking along with Sen. Richard G. Lugar on the Rule of Law and the role of prosecutors as Mexico transitions from its colonial-era inquisitorial system of closed, written court proceedings to a more adversarial system of open criminal trials. On Monday Professor Gurulé will address the conference on the importance of maintaining and strengthening the Rule of Law even in the battle against violent organized crime.
The Rule of Law training conference is the result of an agreement entered into by Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoller and the Attorney General of the Mexican state of Baja California, Rommel Moreno Manjarrez. The event is co-sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Western Attorneys General and funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development or USAID.
