Recent Notre Dame Law graduate selected for bankruptcy award

Riley Sissung, a 2019 Notre Dame Law School graduate, was recently selected as one of the 2019 Distinguished Law Students for this year’s Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar.

The award is given to students who have demonstrated skill in bankruptcy law. Sissung was nominated by adjunct professors Mark Telloyan and Daniel Murray, both of whom taught Sissung during his time at Notre Dame. Notre Dame students also won the award in 2017 and 2018. 

“During the past two semesters I have worked with Riley, I have found him to have a strong sense of commitment to the practice of bankruptcy law and a deep interest in the subject matter,” Murray wrote in his nomination.

Sissung excelled in two courses for Murray, who taught Corporate Reorganization and supervised Sissung’s directed reading looking at the absolute priority rule of personal Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases.

“In my opinion, Riley has everything it takes to be a model ‘distinguished law student’ and someday an outstanding member of the bankruptcy bar,” Telloyan wrote.

After the bar, Sissung plans to clerk for the Hon. Eduardo V. Rodriguez, United State Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Texas.
 
"I am grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from Professor Telloyan and Professor Murray in my time here at Notre Dame Law School,” Sissung said. “Each has been incredibly supportive in my pursuit of the practice area, and I am excited to see where my interest in the bankruptcy field takes me."
