Professor Patrick W. Thomas, director of Notre Dame Law School’s Tax Clinic, has been chosen as one of 25 members of the Indiana State Bar Association’s 2019 Leadership Development Academy.

The Leadership Development Academy helps prepare Indiana lawyers to be leaders in local and state communities. All of the members of the academy have been members of the bar for less than 15 years.

“Our first session in January demonstrated that this year’s class is replete with thoughtful, service-oriented Hoosier lawyers who seek to meaningfully better our state,” Thomas said. “I’m honored and humbled that the Indiana State Bar Association selected me to take part in this unique opportunity. I look forward to learning from Indiana’s experts in organizational leadership, and to taking these skills back to the Notre Dame Clinical Law Center, the Law School, and the South Bend community.”

The 25 members will participate in five sessions throughout the year, focusing on leadership principles and techniques, the importance of effective leaders in organizations to maximize efficiency and effectiveness, and the challenges and rewards of leadership in action, according to a press release from the Indiana State Bar Association.

“Patrick is already a leader in his field in both Indiana and national forums,” said Professor Robert L. Jones, associate dean for experiential programs. “His participation in this leadership academy is a win for Patrick, for the state bar, and for the Law School. The bench, the bar, and the academy all benefit from active engagement with one another.”
