Football Tickets, Class Registration, Your First Bill —Oh My!

Author: Notre Dame Law School Admissions

This time of year, incoming students ask questions often about what they should be doing over the summer, as well as how to best prepare for the school year. In addition to completing all of the items on the to-do list we posted (in case you forgot, check out the blog post), below you will find a few frequently asked questions. Don’t forget that the Insider’s Guide is an excellent resource as you prepare to begin your legal career at Notre Dame Law School! As always, you can contact the Admissions Office at or by calling 574-631-6626 with any additional questions.

When will I register for Fall 2017 classes?

All incoming 1L students will be registered into their fall semester classes by the Law School Registrar. Your class schedule will be available in InsideND in August.

When will I purchase my books?

There will be time built into the orientation schedule for you to purchase books. Avoid purchasing books online or in advance because your section may change between when you see classes posted on InsideND and when classes actually begin – and then you may have the wrong books.
Bring cash, checks, or credit cards to pay for your books and a backpack with you that day to help carry your books back home. You will receive your locker assignment at orientation and can chose to keep books in your locker (assuming you brought your lock with you!).

When is orientation?

Orientation is Tuesday, August 15 through Friday, August 18, and is mandatory for all incoming students. For the time being check out our Save the Date and know that more information about orientation will be coming soon!

Do I have any reading to do over the summer?

After you arrive on campus and purchase your books you will begin to see your professors post assignments on their class site through Sakai (also accessible through InsideND). The best way to prepare for your first day of classes is to do the assigned readings and be ready to answer questions about the material. It’s not like undergraduate — you can’t get away without reading the assigned material just because it’s the first day. The professors do call on students on the first day, and while they won’t expect you to be perfect, they will expect you to know the material.

When will I receive my first bill and when is it due?

IRISHPay is the University’s online student account statement and payment system available to students (and their authorized payers, if applicable). IRISHPay benefits include:

  • Secure 24/7 access to your monthly student account statements and activity.
  • Convenient online payment via electronic check (no credit cards accepted).

  • Either enter “IRISHPay” in the search bar or click on the “IRISHPay for Students” icon.

You and any authorized payers will receive an email when your monthly student account statement is available. The Fall 2017 statement will be available on Friday, July 14, with payment due by Wednesday, August 9. The Spring 2018 statement will be available on Friday, Dec. 8, with payment due by Tuesday, Jan. 2.
