Annual Red Mass is Monday, followed by St. Thomas More Lecture

The annual Red Mass for lawyers, judges, law and political science students, and civil government officials is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The Red Mass is a celebration in which God’s blessing is asked on all those who serve the law.

The Most Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, will give the homily at Mass.

After Mass, Dr. Stephen Smith of Hillsdale College will deliver the inaugural St. Thomas More Lecture during a dinner reception in Eck Commons at Notre Dame Law School.

Smith’s lecture is called “St. Thomas More on ‘Leading Citizenship’: Developing the Leaders Needed in Stormy Times.”

The buffet reception will start at 6:30 p.m. in Eck Commons, and the one-hour lecture will start at 7 p.m. The lecture has been approved for 1 hour of CLE credit in Indiana.
