7th Cir: Videotaping Public Police Work Legal

The 7th Cir. ruled that the public recording of police at work is not a crime under a 1961 Illinois eavesdropping statute challenged by the ACLU on 1st Am. free speech grounds. An ACLU spokesperson noted, “empowering individuals and organizations in this fashion will ensure additional transparency and oversight of police across the State.”
