A word about law students attending counseling/therapy. Life can bring experiences and difficulties that can be helped with professional, confidential counseling and therapy. While some states’ bar applications will inquire as to whether the applicant has participated in counseling or psychotherapy for psychological conditions or disorders, the experience of our students has been that such counseling or therapy typically does not have any bearing on whether a candidate will be admitted to the bar. Indeed, bar associations encourage attorneys to seek counseling when needed and do not penalize law students who have done so. Any concerns you have about this subject may be discussed confidentially with the Director of Student Services, the Director of Career Services, or the Director of the University Counseling Center
