SBA News
- 2Ls have a new SBA rep, Congrats to Anne Mackin and welcome to SBA!
- In town for Thanksgiving? The Grad Student Union is selling tickets to the delicious thanksgiving brunch at the dining hall for only $5 (face value something like $15). Go to LaFun info desk. There are limited quantities and you need your student ID.
- Dear Carrel Hoggers (you know who you are!), It is NOT COOL to leave your stuff in the Carrels ALL day long! Just because you cannot reserve a carrel, does not mean you can claim one by taking it over all day, yet still going to class, lunch, dinner, etc. Finals are approaching and with the lack of a library we really need to SHARE our study space. FYI Hesburgh allows you to reserve carrels if you really need one to yourself.
- New Sweatshirts and Leprechaun Shirts are now available in the SBA Office! Get them while they last. License plates coming soon.

1) Come to the LVCY table any day this week and make a donation that will go towards buying books. Any donation of $5 or more will get you a LVCY logo to sign, which will be hung up somewhere in the law school.
2) From 11/23-12/19 go to the Notre Dame bookstore, where they will give you a 20% discount on any children’s book that you would like to donate. Some of their books are already 50-75% off in the children section. No need to bring them to us, the Book Store will hold on to them.
3) When you go home for thanksgiving, bring back any “like-new” children’s books you have and are no longer using, and we’ll give them to kids who need them.
4) Borders Books, at 4230 Grape Rd. in Mishawaka, IN is giving a 25% discount to all ND Law Students and Faculty on December 3rd and 4th in order to encourage people to donate books. Any questions contact Dan Reynolds at treynol3@nd.edu - Social Justice Forum Thanksgiving Baskets: These will be given to 124 families in the South Bend area who otherwise might go without Thanksgiving dinner. Baskets will be put together next Sunday at 5:30 after Law School Mass in the Commons and they could use as many people as possible to help assemble. Light dinner provided. Also, to raise money for these baskets, we are selling amnesty days to the 1Ls for their classes this week. 1Ls can buy their way out of getting called on in class this week. All 1L professors are participating except for Prof. Kaveny and Prof. Blakey. Prof. Barrett is only allowing the first 15 people in her class to purchase amnesty. Look for SJF members selling amnesty in the Commons 30 minutes before each 1L class this week, and during the lunch hour. We would also appreciate donations in cash or check made out to “Social Justice Forum.” 100% of the funds received go to Thanksgiving Baskets.
- NDLS Ladies PART 3: SUIT DONATION: Bring your unwanted suits, heels, bags, etc. back from home over Thanksgiving!
Keys to Victory
- Baraka Bouts: Law School Ladies went 3-2 in the bouts on Thursday Night. All five fighters has a great law school crowd supporting them, good work NDLSers. Videos of the fights are floating around the internet, but here are quick recaps.
- In the first of the bouts, 3L Margaret “The Shah” Azhar absolutely DOMINATED her opponent and won in an unanimous decision scoring perfect scores with the judges.
- Next up 3L Katelan “The” Doyle was robbed by the judges losing in a split decision. Apparently the judges thought head bopping was an acceptable punch. Way to go anyway Doyle!
- The third fight of the night, 3L Becky “Mud Run” Anderson, showed her opponent who was boss landing some pretty ridiculous blows to the face. She won in a split decision.
- Next 3L Jaclyn “The Truth” Sexton held off her opponent, always landing the last punch to win in a split decision. He opponent could in fact NOT handle The Truth.
- In the final fight, 1L Kate Maternowski came out with the support of huge law school crowd. She fought a tough fight and never gave up but unfortunately fell to her opponent. Everyone should be looking forward to her return to the ring next fall.
- The Mostachios: Still going strong in week 3. Update #2 is pretty weak, I apologize because I was out of town. Donations for Sam Elliot and the Mostachios go to: https://www.movember.com/us/donate/your-details/team_id/44097

- One of our own was in a SPORTS CENTER Commercial? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y0RJSHnTqw Click that and see if you can spot Professor Tidmarsh!
- Professor Rick Garnett posted an ad for Metallica tickets in the law school basement. He is just so in touch with today’s youth!
- Carmela Kinslow in the library (question mark?) just adopted a beautiful and rambunctious baby girl puppy—Hanna? There is talk of Hanna becoming the new face of the law school.
Student Bar Association
The Student Bar Association is the student government at the Law School and all students are considered members. Our association performs various tasks related to student life, both social and academic, such as orientation, appointment of students to various faculty committees, intramural athletics and several social functions throughout the year. More generally, the officers attempt to represent student interests in any matter of sufficient importance. At the national level, the association is a member of the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association.
