Thomas R. Curtin, ’68 J.D., Receives Rev. Michael D. McCafferty, C.S.C., Award

The Notre Dame Law Association has named Thomas R. Curtin the 2010 recipient of The Rev. Michael D. McCafferty, C.S.C., Award. The McCafferty award is presented by the association to Notre Dame lawyers — or members of the Notre Dame Law School faculty or administration — who have rendered distinguished service to the University.

The award is named for Fr. Michael McCafferty, a popular and highly respected teacher at Notre Dame Law School whose life was shortened by cancer. It is not presented on an annual basis, but only on occasions when the association’s board deems someone worthy of receiving it.

Curtin is a member of the Notre Dame Law School Advisory Council, chairs the Notre Dame Law School Order of St. Thomas More, and has served as president of the Notre Dame Law Association.

“I was surprised, flattered, but honored,” Curtin said of the award.

“I loved my time at ND and have been active at the Law School since graduation in 1968. Every good thing that’s happened to me can be traced to Notre Dame. The lessons I learned from ND shaped my life and the friends I made are lifelong. My work for ND is my way of saying thank you. I tell people that my body left ND in 1968 but my heart is still there."

Curtin makes his home in Mendham, N.J., and practices law in Morristown, N.J., where he is a shareholder in Graham Curtin, A Professional Association. He is the New Jersey State Delegate to the American Bar Association and the former president of the New Jersey State Bar Association.

He has three children, Paul, Alison and Amy; and five grandsons, Dylan, Collin, Ryan, Joshie and Matty.
