NDLS Partners with St. Joseph County Bar Association and the Gigot Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at the Mendoza College of Business on Pro Bono Project

Author: Kyle Fitzenreiter

The project offers law students an opportunity to team with pro bono attorneys in offering free legal assistance to local small businesses. Last year, eighteen 2Ls and 3Ls provided legal advice to six separate businesses.

This spring, the Gigot Center plans to work with six small businesses in need of assistance during the spring semester. A team of business students will evaluate each business and provide assistance with business plans, marketing, and operational issues. Teams of law students, working under the supervision of pro bono business attorneys, will simultaneously conduct a legal analysis of each business. The legal teams will meet with business owners, conduct factual and legal research, draft advice letters, and then conduct follow-up meetings with their clients. Some legal teams may take on a small project arising from their recommendations.

An informational meeting for students will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 12:30-1:00 p.m. in Room 1130, Eck Hall of Law. For additional information, please contact:
