Mark A. Klaassen, ’98 J.D., nominated for U.S. attorney for Wyoming

An alumnus of Notre Dame Law School has been nominated for U.S. attorney for the District of Wyoming.

If confirmed, Mark A. Klaassen, ’98 J.D., will serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer within his district, which covers the entire state of Wyoming.

President Donald Trump announced Klaassen’s nomination last week along with candidates for other U.S. attorney positions in Alaska, Georgia, South Dakota, and Tennessee.

Klaassen is currently an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Wyoming, where he has served since 2009. From 2007 to 2009, he was chief of staff to the general counsel for the Department of Homeland Security. He served as general counsel for the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security from 2003 to 2007.

Klaassen, who earned his bachelor’s degree at Oral Roberts University, began his career as an associate at the global law firm Latham & Watkins LLP. He clerked for Judge Wade Brorby of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
