Law School Welcomes Dean for a Day Timothy L. Dondanville

Dean Nell Jessup Newton is pleased to announce that Timothy L. Dondanville will become Dean of the University of Notre Dame Law School on September 9, 2014, and that he has agreed to serve in that important position until the close of business on September 9, 2014. During Dean Dondanville’s short – but surely memorable – deanship, Dean Newton will return to the faculty to concentrate on her research.

Dean Dondanville was chosen by a rigorous process – he was the highest bidder at the Fr. Mike Show.

Dean Newton is confident Dean Dondanville will serve the NDLS community well. His experience as quarterback on the Princeton varsity football team has honed his leadership skills. A history major at Princeton, he demonstrated his interest in all things Irish, by writing his senior thesis on Ireland’s Forgotten Son: Rediscovering John Redmond in Irish Newspapers. At NDLS, the Dean serves on the Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy and is a member of the International Law Society, a first- and second-year Class Representative for the Student Bar Association, and a member of the Sports, Communications, and Entertainment Law Forum. He also enjoys playing flag football and Bookstore Basketball.

Dean Dondanville’s tenure in the Dean’s office will begin Tuesday morning, September 9, 2014, at 9:00 AM. Dean Newton is asking the associate deans and senior administrators to make themselves available to brief Dean Dondanville on the pressing issues facing the Law School. She is counting on him to solve all of these problems during what she expects will be a short, but fulfilling, tenure as dean. He will be assisted throughout the day by Julie Shook, the Dean’s assistant.

Dean Dondanville has assured Dean Newton that he has no plans to make radical changes in the policies or practices of the law school, so don’t get any hopes up.
