The Modesto, Calif., attorney is a partner with the law firm McCormick Barstow. The court, sitting en banc to review an earlier Ninth Circuit panel decision, ruled 11-0 in favor of a Muslim woman’s right to bring a lawsuit accusing her Southern California jailers of violating her religious freedom by ordering her to take off her head scarf in a courthouse holding cell.
