Sunny Hostin, J.D. ’94, was named the Alvin McKenna Alumnus of the Year Award and asked to give the keynote address at the 2012 Black Law Students Association awards banquet at NDLS this year.

Margaret M. (“Peggy”) J.D. ’79, has been given a warm tribute by the quarterly journal Directors & Boards.

The special feature article called Foran, the chief governance officer and corporate secretary of Prudential Financial, “the rare individual who has earned the respect of all constituencies in the ongoing governance debates.”

Patrick A. Salvi, J.D. ’78, has been presented with the 2011 Career Achievement Award by Cook County’s Jury Verdict Reporter and the Law Bulletin Publishing Company.

The Award is presented to lawyers who have secured at least five Illinois civil jury verdicts of at least $5 million (not counting settlements and bench trials).

The Award was presented at the Cook County Jury Verdict Reporter’s annual Awards for Trial Lawyer Excellence at the University Club in Chicago October 26.

An adjunct professor of law at Notre Dame, Mr. Salvi is the managing equity partner of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard, the Chicago and Waukegan, Illinois, firm he established in 1982.

President Obama has nominated Judge David Campos Guaderrama to serve on the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.

Robert M. Greene, J.D. ’69, a partner with Phillips Lytle LLP, has received the New York State Bar Association’s 2011 Root-Stimson Award.

The Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey presented the Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. Award to Thomas R. Curtin at its annual dinner June 21. The award is given to an outstanding lawyer whose contributions to the law are recognized by the Association as deserving of special and unique recognition as befits the name of Justice Brennan, in whose name the award is given.

The Law School’s first Notre Dame Fellows, Jessica L. Howton of Friendswood, Texas, and Brian M. Murray of Annapolis, Maryland, accepted their awards April 25.

The Honorable Willie G. Lipscomb, J.D. ‘75, of Michigan’s 36th District Court, has been named the Alvin McKenna Alumnus of the Year by the Notre Dame Chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA). Judge Lipscomb will receive the award at the 38th Annual BLSA Alumni Weekend celebration dinner, which will be held at the Notre Dame Stadium Press Box on Saturday, April 9 at 6:00 pm.

John M. Dunn has been invited to join the American Board of Trial Advocates after a vote by the current San Joaquin Valley Chapter members and approval by the national organization. The Modesto, Calif., attorney is a partner with the law firm McCormick Barstow. He was the only person to be invited into the San Joaquin Valley Chapter in 2010, and he becomes the 74th member in the Valley.

U.S. Department of Justice attorney Conor Dugan, ’03 J.D., recently represented the United States when it participated in oral arguments as amicus curiae in the Ninth Circuit case, Khatib v. County of Orange. The court, sitting en banc to review an earlier Ninth Circuit panel decision, ruled 11-0 in favor of a Muslim woman’s right to bring a lawsuit accusing her Southern California jailers of violating her religious freedom by ordering her to take off her head scarf in a courthouse holding cell.…

The Notre Dame Law Association (NDLA) Board of Directors will hold its Spring 2011 meeting on Friday, April 8th. The board represents more than 8,000 Notre Dame Lawyers throughout the world and includes 16 regional and one at-large representative covering 18 regions of the country. Membership includes a president, president-elect, and three Alumni Association affinity group representatives, serving on behalf of Asian-Pacific alumni, Black alumni, and Hispanic alumni. Past-presidents serve as executive advisory board members.…

After three years as associate general counsel for the National Hockey League Players Association, Matt Nussbaum, J.D. 2004, has been named assistant general counsel to the Major League Baseball Players Association.

The Notre Dame Law Association has named Thomas R. Curtin the 2010 recipient of The Rev. Michael D. McCafferty, C.S.C., Award. The McCafferty award is presented by the association to Notre Dame lawyers — or members of the Notre Dame Law School faculty or administration — who have rendered distinguished service to the University.

Captain Wendy Sue Kosek, a 2004 University of Notre Dame graduate and a 2007 graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School, has been honored with The Rev. William Corby, C.S.C., Award for distinguished military service to her country.…

Six years after graduating from NDLS, the Indiana Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross ordained Gerry Olinger at Notre Dame’s Basilica of the Sacred Heart on April 10, 2010. Father Gerry is now a residence hall director at the University of Portland in Oregon, where he ministers to students living there. Next year, Olinger will serve as executive assistant to the president, Rev. E. William Beauchamp, C.S.C.

Only a select few enter the hallowed chambers of the Supreme Court of the United States to clerk for a justice. Notre Dame Law School alumna Tara Stuckey made the cut, and begins work for Justice Samuel Alito in July.
