Robert Rehm, a partner of Smith Anderson, has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors of StepUp Ministry. StepUp Ministry is a nonprofit corporation headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, that partners with adults and children in the shared goal of stable lives through jobs and life skills training. In the past, Rehm has assisted StepUp Ministry on a pro bono basis in connection with various legal matters. Rehm practices primarily in the areas of technology licensing and commercialization, and the acquisition, licensing and protection of intellectual property rights with a focus on information-technology-related transactions. “Robert embodies the spirit of community and brings intellectual property expertise to the table,” said Linda Nunnallee, Executive Director of StepUp Ministry. “We are fortunate to have him by our side as StepUp Ministry Raleigh moderates the expansion of our organization statewide.”

John Lynch, a shareholder and member of the executive committee at Davis, Malm & D’Agostine, P.C., has been elected to a four-year term on the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation. The Massachusetts Bar Foundation’s mission is to ensure equal access to the legal system in the Commonwealth for those most vulnerable. Last year, the Foundation distributed approximately $1.9 million to provide legal services for 63,000 people. Lynch practices in the area of business law, focusing primarily on advising business organizations as general outside corporate counsel and representing them in corporate transactional work.

Alan “Lanny” Anderson passed away on May 7, 2015 in Denver, Colorado, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Lanny was a longtime partner in the Denver firm of Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons n/k/a Lewis Roca Rothgerber. Several years ago, Lanny moved to Colorado Springs to start a second career as a Deputy District Attorney, Economic Crimes Unit. Lanny was the founder of Pro Bono USA, an organization created to assist attorneys in helping indigent individuals receive free legal assistance. The Honorable Rudy Gerber, having retired from the Arizona Court of Appeals after 22 years as a judge, has been teaching law at Thomas Jefferson Law School in San Diego. In that capacity he was invited to serve as a visiting law professor at the American University of Armenia, in Yerevan, Armenia, in the spring semester of 2014, where he taught human rights and criminal law and also was invited to consult on these issues and other legal reforms with the Armenian Ministry of Justice.
Richard Nussbaum recently became president of the Midwest League, which includes the South Bend Cubs and fifteen other teams. In addition to his role as president, Nussbaum will remain in his roles as general counsel of the league, in which he has served since 1993 and secretary, in which he has served since 2009. Dallas attorney, Daniel P. Novakov, ’72 BA, ’76 J.D., a Greenberg Traurig shareholder, is named chairman of the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association in the first season of the new college football playoff system. Dale Recinella devotes his life to practicing as “a different kind of lawyer”. The law school is sad to announce the death of Stan Cardenas who passed away on April 20, 2014 in San Francisco. Stan was a dedicated alumnus of Notre Dame who served as a Member of the Hesburgh Libraries Advisory Council since 1989. Stan was devoted to helping maintain state of the art library resources on the campus of Notre Dame.
