Paul Drey, ’89 BA, ’92 JD Honored with Prestigious John F. Sanford Award

Paul Drey, the managing partner of Brick Gentry, P.C., was recently honored with the John F. Sanford Award during the Dinner Gala at the Iowa Medical Society’s (IMS) 165th Annual Conference. The John F. Sanford Award recognizes a layperson who has made outstanding contributions to health care on behalf of both the Iowa Medical Society and the physicians in the State of Iowa. The presenter of the award stated, “There is a reason Paul is the ‘go to’ attorney for medical groups and physicians in Iowa – he truly cares about Iowa physicians, and understands how complex our world can be.” The receipt of this award is further evidence of how Paul continues to exhibit the attributes of strong intellect, faith, and service that resulted in him being chosen as the inaugural Father Michael McCafferty Law Scholar at NDLS in 1992. The Class of 2015: Year of the Volunteer

Lorelie Masters, ’81 J.D., Featured in 2015 Super Lawyers Magazine

Lorelie Masters was featured on the cover of 2015 Super Lawyers of Washington, D.C., in an article titled “Masters of the Insurance Universe.” Masters, a partner at Perkins Coie, is known as an expert in the field of insurance litigation, an area that she has practiced in since the mid- 1980s. In addition to the hours devoted to her successful practice, Masters spends after hours in her role as a social activist: advocating for pay equity for women, human-trafficking laws, voting rights and other issues. This past year Masters declared her candidacy to become the first elected attorney general in the District simply because “the race … needed to include women’s voices.”

Tom Ajamie, ’85 J.D., One of 500 Leading Lawyers in America

Tom Ajamie, who founded his own Houston and New York based litigation firm in 1997, was named one of 500 Leading Lawyers in America for 2014 by Lawdragon. Ajamie was featured as one of the “Heavyweights.” Lawdragon describes Ajamie as “one of the most prolific and successful anti-fraud courtroom crusaders, with billions of verdicts, settlements and awards under his belt and a full caseload in the post-financial crisis era.” His cases have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and the American Lawyer.

Luningham Wins National Legal Writing Award

Katie Jo Luningham, 3L, has been named a Burton Distinguished Legal Writing Award Winner, one of the highest national awards for student legal writing. Her paper Resisting Rulemaking: Challenging the Montana Settlement’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Blueprint, was published last year in the Notre Dame Law Review.
