Professor Jimmy Gurulé was recently elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). The Academy has been awarded a grant by the World Bank Group to evaluate the effectiveness of the Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR) initiative. Professor Gurulé was selected to serve on the panel of experts that will conduct the evaluation and submit a report to the World Bank Group and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC).
Professor O’Connell delivered several lectures and participated in a panel debate on drone warfare.
While in London on October 21, Professor Mary Ellen O’Connell delivered two lectures concerning the United States’ use of unmanned aerial vehicles as weapons of war.
On October 19, Professor Emeritus Donald P. Kommers delivered a Hesburgh Lecture in Pittsburgh entitled “The Obsolescence of the U.S. Constitution.” The lecture was co-sponsored by Pittsburgh’s Notre Dame Alumni Club and the Duquesne University Law School.
Professor Rick Garnett is giving a talk, “Render Unto Caesar: The Role of Faith in the Public Square,” at Wabash College on Monday October 25. On Thursday October 21 Prof. Garnett was the guest for the hour-long Wisconsin Public Radio program “At Issue with Ben Merens” where the topic was the First Amendment and the constitutional arguments over the separation of church and state.
To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the United Kingdom’s Human Rights Act on October 20, Notre Dame’s Center for Civil and Human Rights and the UK’s Human Rights Lawyers Association are holding a day-long event at Notre Dame’s London Law Centre to compare the approaches of the United Kingdom and the United States to protecting fundamental human rights.
