Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu to Visit Notre Dame Law School

Washington Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu, ‘93 J.D., will meet with students on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, to discuss her career path and clerkship opportunities. Justice Yu is on campus at the request of the Asian Law Students Association and University of Notre Dame Law School.

Justice Yu’s appointment to the bench made history in 2014. As a first-generation American she is the first Asian, Latina and openly gay woman to serve on Washington’s highest court. Raised on the south side of Chicago, Justice Yu became the first person in her family to graduate from college after earning a B.A. in theology from Dominican University. After graduation she was hired by Rev. Francis J. Kane to work for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago. Yu went on to earn a graduate degree in theology from Mundelein of Loyola University and her law degree from NDLS.

Justice Yu’s career accomplishments include running the Office of Peace and Justice for the Archdiocese of Chicago, acting as deputy chief of staff to King County Prosecuting Attorney Norm Maleng and serving as a trial judge on the King County Superior Court.

Justice Yu’s discussion will begin at 12:30 PM in 1140 Eck Hall. At 2:00 PM she will answer questions about clerkships in the Faculty Meeting Room.
