Charles A. Weiss ’68 J.D. Helps Win Client’s Freedom Pro Bono
Working pro bono, Charlie Weiss,’68 JD, and fellow Bryan Cave attorney Thor Mathison have won the freedom of Alonzo Martin, who had been jailed in 2007 and later committed without a trial to Missouri state psychiatric hospitals.
Weiss, the 2013 recipient of the Notre Dame Law School’s Rev. Michael D. McCafferty, C.S.C., Award, has served as president of the Notre Dame Club of St. Louis and as president of the Notre Dame Law Association in 2001 and 2002. He previously received national recognition for leading the team of lawyers that freed Joshua Charles Kezer from Missouri prisons in 2009 after Kezer had served seventeen years for a murder he did not commit.
