weigand scholarship news The J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Trust awarded three full scholarships to students attending Notre Dame Law School during the 2008-09 academic year. In addition to covering 100 percent of tuition, fees and books, students receive a generous room and board allowance. The scholarship is available to students who have lived in Kansas for at least ten years. The Trust also assists scholarship recipients with career placement in Kansas during and after their graduation from law school.

Recipients are: Christina Pyle of Lenexa and Amelia Yowell-Mayes of McPherson, both first-year law students beginning fall 2008; and Nick Monaghan of Witchita, a third-year law student in fall 2008.

Scholarships are awarded annually, and may be renewed. This is the third year for Monaghan to receive the scholarship. “It has always been my dream to attend Notre Dame Law School, but I never thought that I’d be able to afford it,” he says. “Thanks to the generosity of J.L. Weigand, I have the opportunity to study at the nation’s premier Catholic law school.” Monaghan plans to practice corporate law after graduation.

The J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Trust is a private, independent trust established in 2003 through the will of J.L. Weigand, Jr. Upon his death in 2002, Weigand left most of his lifetime earnings to establish the Trust.
