From the email FAQ pile:
Do I still need to send a thank you note after an interview? Do I need to send a thank you note after just an informational interview?
Yes, yes, yes! Usually, an emailed note is sufficient, especially for a screening interview. Informational interviews are used for networking purposes, and you still need to thank the person for their time and expertise. As for all networking, don’t forget to follow-up periodically with folks to let them know what you are doing or share an article you thought they might find interesting based on your conversation. Networking is a commitment to working with someone, not just for an immediate job, but for the long-term. You never know when a connection may lead you to a new career position, community service opportunity, or interest path, or when you’ll be able to help a connection out. At the end of the day, networking is about healthy relationships — and keeping them healthy takes time, energy, and patience!
