ND London Law Centre workshop examines global justice and private law

The Notre Dame London Law Centre recently hosted leading academics from Europe and Asia for a two-day workshop titled “Global Wrongs and Private Law Remedies and Procedures.”

At the heart of the conversation was an examination of the traditional role and contemporary appeal of private law and individual autonomy in the development of principles and institutions of global justice. Workshop delegates tackled issues such as how private law can be part of the answer to the problems of “extreme deprivation, exploitation, exclusion, and lack of global social welfare.”

As Professor Bennett pointed out in his opening remarks, “Given the University of Notre Dame’s long- standing commitment to the investigation of issues of social justice it is particularly appropriate and valuable to be able to use the law school’s Suffolk Street campus to host such an international event.”

Workshop presenters came from institutions in Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and England.

The Notre Dame Law Centre, which runs both year-long and summer programs, is the only year-long study abroad program to be fully accredited by the Association of American Law Schools and the American Bar Association.
