The J.D. Class of 2012: A Profile

Class of 2012 story Notre Dame Law School welcomes an outstanding group of first-year law students. The class of 2012 has a 166 median LSAT and a 3.6 median GPA. Catholics comprise 64 percent of the class. Forty-four percent of Notre Dame Law School’s new students are women, and 31 percent are members of minority groups.

New students represent 110 colleges, and 13 of them also have graduate degrees. In addition, the 1L class hails from 39 states plus D.C. and 2 foreign countries, with California contributing the most students (and a new Dean as well!).

Many members of the first-year class have studied, lived, worked, or volunteered abroad. Close to a quarter are bi- or multi-lingual, speaking such languages as Farsi, Arabic, and Italian.

The class of 2012 brings rich and varied experiences to their study of law. Some worked in investment banking, real estate, and marketing. Others were teachers and even a principal, as well as writers, professional athletes, and entrepreneurs.

First-year students have worked at all levels of national, state, and local government – from the White House to the State House, and even the Cherokee Nation. All branches of military service are represented in this class, and a number of artists are attending as well – musicians, dancers, and actors. More than 80 percent participated in service projects before law school.
