Student Spotlight: Thomas A. Fasel, LL.M. '08
A native of Southern California, I attended Chapman University School of Law in Orange County, California. Upon completion of my studies in 2005, I joined the national law firm of Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith, LLP as a litigation associate. Although litigation presented novel and complex challenges, I quickly realized that my true passion lies in combining my past professional experience, undergraduate business degree, and legal education into a career in international trade.
While researching a career change, I realized that most of the top legal professionals in international trade had obtained LL.M. degrees. Obtaining an LL.M. degree became the clear means by which I could catapult to a successful career in my chosen specialty.
As I researched LL.M. programs, Notre Dame Law School’s program in International and Comparative Law stood head and shoulders above the rest. It affords the opportunity to focus on several highly-specialized areas of study at one of the finest academic institutions in the world.
Currently, I am in my second semester of study in London and enjoying every minute of it. From student outings around London to friendships forged with the local Londoners, I have developed relationships that will last a lifetime. Remarkably, outside the classroom, the faculty have been exceptionally helpful and involved in my professional development. Whether it is an invitation to professional clubs, trade parties, lectures on international law and trade or an introduction to an industry professional, the faculty truly care about my future success.
Upon graduation, I plan to use my degree to gain employment with an international shipping company or large international corporation helping to facilitate commerce on a global scale. Notre Dame’s London LL.M. Program has provided the knowledge base, skills, contacts, and international experience that will serve me well in both my professional and personal life for years to come.
