Giving Back at Thanksgiving
Philanthropy is, and has always been, an important part of life at Notre Dame Law School. The Annual Thanksgiving Basket Drive is one of several major efforts organized by students and supported by the entire NDLS community.
“For me, one of the things that sets Notre Dame lawyers apart is a commitment to serving the local community,” says 2L Carolyn Sweeney, president of the Social Justice Forum, the student organization sponsoring the food drive. “I think that my fellow students at the Law School realize that we would not be here without having received the support of our families and our communities, and we desire to share the blessings we have received with those in need.”
On Sunday, November 22, scores of students and staff (and members of their families) gathered inside Eck Hall of Law to assemble baskets of food purchased by cash donations. Through the Law School community’s generosity, 124 needy families will have a complete Thanksgiving dinner.
“I have been astounded by the generosity of the Law School in giving both time and support during this incredibly busy and sometimes stressful season,” says Sweeney.
The assembled baskets will be delivered to families and social service agencies through the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
