The Class of 2009
A Snapshot
The Notre Dame Law School awarded 199 J.D. degrees and 15 LL.M. degrees during its diploma ceremony on Sunday, May 17. One J.D. degree was awarded posthumously to Timothy Aher, who died in February 2008 while a second year law student in Notre Dame’s London program. The day began with an ecumenical prayer service and hooding ceremony in the Basilica.
The J.D. class of 2009 hails from 36 different states and 111 colleges and universities, including Duke, Cornell, USC, and the University of Michigan.
Here’s what some of those soon-to-be alumni will be doing:
Sheryn Alexander:
“I accepted an offer at White & Case, which I’ll begin after my clerkship with Judge Charles Wilson of the 11th Circuit. The many Notre Dame alumni at my firm kept in touch with me frequently throughout the decision process. It’s good to know that although I will be working at a large New York firm, I will have a strong support system in place because of my connection to Notre Dame.”
James Ward:
“Starting in September, I will be a law clerk to the Hon. J.L. Edmondson on the Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Judge Edmondson sits in Atlanta, which is where I plan to practice. After my clerkship, I’ll be an associate at King & Spalding’s Atlanta office, just a few miles up Peachtree Street from the Courthouse.”
Carla Bennett:
“This fall, after I take and hopefully conquer the bar exam, I will head to Philadelphia to begin a new career as a litigation attorney with Duane Morris LLP, which I chose for the same reason I chose Notre Dame: both value teamwork.”
The LL.M. class of 2009 consists of lawyers from 14 countries, including Libya, Nepal, Venezuela, South Korea and Sierra Leone. Most will return to their home countries to continue their human rights work. Visit this link for more on the LL.M. class of 2009:
